Litigation Groups
Free email-based practice specific litigation groups allow practitioners, within a specicialized area of practice, a forum to get quick answers, discuss common concerns, share ideas and stay connected. These groups include a National Plaintiff-only Medical Negligence, Criminal Defence (CDLG) and Family Law (FLLG).
 
On-Line Document Databanks
An STLA membership allows you access to the association’s many on-line databnks - Experts, General Practice, Criminal Defence (CDLG) and Family Law Litigation Group (FLLG). Share files, locate experts, refer experts all at your fingertips. You can also share your knowledge of expert witnesses by making recommendations for additions to the database. Members simply login to access the Expert; General Practice; and specialized Litigation Group databanks (application required for the CDLG and FLLG).
 
On-Line Legal Directory of STLA Members
Lawyers representing plaintiffs and accused persons (voting STLA members only) will have the option to be listed within an on-line directory for members of the public to seek legal advice.
 
Legal Education - Conferences & Teleseminars

STLA has become known for staging conferences and telephone seminars of the highest caliber. Our members get the opportunity to hear from local, national and international experts on a variety of topics. Some recent presenters have included Mr. Edward Greenspan, Q.C., Mr. John Rosen and Justice Bastarache of the Supreme Court of Canada. Our presenters have shared their insights on all aspects of litigation: from pleadings to closing arguments and everything in between and beyond, including appellate advocacy. STLA members receive preferred registration rates for all educational programs. Just another way to show our members how much we value their membership. STLA is a pre-approved CDP provider with the Law Society of Saskatchewan. Upcoming programs are listed under our Calendar.

 
Legal Publication - The Saskatchewan Advocate
Our quarterly publication addresses new case law and trends in the law, practice tips and topics of general interest to all litigation lawyers. The publication includes articles by authors in our own ranks and others including members of the bench, law professors, accountants, engineers, and health care professionals. Search our on-line password protected “member’s only” section of our website.
 
Legal Connections
When you join with over 300 legal professionals you are joining a community of legal practitioners who can assist you in your practice of law by accessing our general and specialized email listservs you can exchange information: topics such as expert witnesses, trial tips, settlement strategies, to make referrals and more. With the touch of your fingertips your email message will be automatically sent to every member on the list.
 
Our members include some of the Province’s most respected litigation lawyers. Networking with them at our in-person programs provides an excellent opportunity to gain insight and advice on legal issues. Connect with other STLA members at our special events, educational programs or by our email listservs.
 
Need help with a vexing file?
The STLA “Mentor Program” was established to provide our members with a confidential forum to seek guidance and assistance from some of our more experienced members. This one-off program is aimed at insuring that the public continues to receive quality legal services and to support and encourage STLA lawyer members. It is operated through the STLA office of the Executive Director during regular business hours.
 
STLA Judicial Court Liaison
Have a voice within the court system. Committee members meet with representatives of the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal, Court of Queen’s Bench and Provincial Court on a regular basis; to identify and deal with concerns of the members of the Judiciary and of the Bar. The mandate of this Committee is to identify solutions or initiatives for improvement of court administration and procedure; and to maintain positive relations between the Bench and the Bar.
 
STLA Law Reform Initiatives
Proposed changes to legislation in Saskatchewan are reviewed and scrutinized by this committee. Recommendations will be made to the Board of Governors on the position to take in response to any proposed legislative change with briefs being presented to the Governments in support or opposition of proposed changes.
